The Mariposa Collective will present an evening-length production of new work entitled, Emergence, on February 23-25, 2024 at the Grace Gamm Theater in the Dairy Arts Center in Boulder, CO. This performance marks the 30th Anniversary of the Mariposa Collective and will feature new dance and film from:

Riley Bartlett, Cassy Clark, Aleighya Dawkins, Rachel Halmrast, Alli Jones, Jeny Jones, Evelyn Miller, Jesus Munos, Kim Olson, Celia Grannum Perarnaud, Nicky Shindler, Flora Silberman, Sara Swain, Betsy Tobin, Zhuldyz Tokbulatova, Shreya Venkatesh, and Brandon Welch.

Emergence is coming into view after being concealed, the escape of an insect from an egg or cocoon, and the process of coming into being. In philosophy, systems theory, science, and art, emergence occurs when a complex entity has properties or behaviors that its parts do not have on their own, and emerge only when they interact in a wider whole.

This theme is relevant to our name - Mariposa, meaning butterfly in Spanish - and our re-emergence with new members in a new era after a period of dormancy. The artists collaborating to create this performance have used this theme of Emergence to inspire their work.
